After forming ‘A Twist Of Somerset’ in 2017 I took to social media in order to engage with the world in general. Being a big Dragons Den fan, I followed Theo Paphitis on Twitter, I had always known he had been – and continues to be – a huge advocate for small businesses and entrepreneurship, but I was not aware that he had created something called ‘Small Business Sunday’.
Shortened to the hashtag #SBS each week, Theo rewards small businesses that tweet him and describe their business within the Sunday time slot of 5:00pm-7:00pm.
Every Monday at 8:00pm, Theo reviews and chooses his lucky SME’s who are then re-tweeted and given access to a wonderful winners network.
So in January 2017 I sent my first tweet to Theo, attempting to stand out in a sea of other small business owners, adding a pic of one of my products and a short description of what ‘A Twist Of Somerset’ is all about… and then I waited with anticipation…but who said it was going to be easy, right?!
With over 370,000 applications since SBS started in 2010 and under 1% of the entries making the grade I had my work cut out. But I’m nothing if not determined and I continue to tweet EVERY single Sunday evening a further 89 weeks. At 8:00pm on Monday the 24th of September 2018 my mobile phone had what I can only describe as a nuclear meltdown, Theo had re-tweeted my entry and a torrent of notifications headed my way immediately…FINALLY!
